Some watches tell time. This one tells a story.

The Vostok-Europe USS Bluefish SSN-675 “Blue Thunder from Down Under” is piece 013 of 100 — a limited-edition chronograph built to honor one of the Cold War’s most storied nuclear attack submarines. We have it. It’s available now. And if you know what this watch represents, you already know why it won’t last long.

The Ship Behind the Watch

USS Bluefish (SSN-675) was a Sturgeon-class nuclear-powered attack submarine commissioned on January 8, 1971, and built by General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. She served the United States Navy for 25 years — through the heart of the Cold War — before being decommissioned on May 31, 1996.1

Her crew gave her the motto that ended up on the dial of this watch: “Blue Thunder from Down Under.” It’s the kind of name that sticks. The kind that tells you something about the men who sailed her — quiet professionals running deep and fast beneath the surface of a world that was watching the sky.

The Bluefish was capable of 25 knots submerged and could operate at depths of approximately 1,300 feet.2 She was notably one of the only Sturgeon-class submarines to circumnavigate the globe, completing an extended patrol in the Indian Ocean in 1982.3 She wasn’t the most famous submarine in the fleet — she was the kind that did its work without fanfare, which in many ways makes her more interesting.

What Vostok-Europe Built

Vostok-Europe is a Lithuanian watchmaker with a long track record of producing serious tool watches for people who use them. Their military tributes aren’t licensed merchandise — they’re thoughtful collaborations that result in watches people actually wear, collect, and pass on.

This piece features:

  • Japanese chronograph movement (Seiko/Miyota calibre)4 — precise, reliable, well-regarded in the collector community
  • Full chronograph function with subdials for running seconds, elapsed minutes, and a 24-hour indicator
  • Black dial with the USS Bluefish SSN-675 insignia printed at 12 o’clock — the same patch the crew wore
  • “Blue Thunder from Down Under” text printed on the dial — the boat’s actual motto
  • Stainless steel mesh bracelet — substantial, comfortable, period-appropriate for a military-inspired piece
  • Limited to 100 pieces — numbered individually; this is 013/100
  • Full original box set — the Vostok-Europe black presentation box plus the USS Bluefish outer box with full insignia art

Why It Matters to a Collector

There are two kinds of limited-edition watches. The first is a watch that’s “limited” in name only — a marketing tactic attached to an otherwise ordinary piece. The second is a watch with a real ceiling, real provenance, and a real reason to exist.

This is the second kind.

At 100 pieces worldwide, the production run is genuinely small. The submarine it honors was decommissioned in 1996 and scrapped — she’s gone. The crew who sailed her are aging. The era she represented is closed. A watch like this is one of the few physical artifacts that keeps that history tactile — something you can wind, wear, and hand to someone and say: this is what that time felt like.

We priced it at $549. A numbered example sold on eBay in August 2026 for $600.5 We’re below that comp on purpose — we’d rather it go to someone who values it than sit here while we wait for maximum dollar.

Who This Watch Is For

If you served on submarines, know someone who did, or simply respect the history — this is a meaningful piece to own. If you’re a Vostok-Europe collector, piece 013 of a 100-unit run doesn’t come around often. And if you’re new to the brand, this is one of the best entry points they’ve ever made: a real story, real movement, real presentation.

Daymark exists to find watches like this and put them in front of people who’ll appreciate them. This one qualifies.
